About the exhibition

By examining her experiences in relationships, Laila Sedky began to uncover patterns shaped by unexamined ideas about love. What once appeared as difficulty revealed itself as an opportunity to look inward, to understand, question, and rebuild the beliefs that influenced how she connected with others.

At its core, this exhibition is about learning love from within, placing the relationship to the self at the center of creating something real, steady, and lasting.

Portrait of Laila Sedky

Laila Sedky

Laila failed miserably in relationships, and it became her biggest wound. She wanted to understand it: to uncover her patterns, why she kept repeating them, where they started, and how she could learn about love.

So she went deep. She put a microscope on her failed relationships to understand herself and why. This collection was born from that failure.

Laila Sedky is an Egyptian artist whose work explores love, belonging, self-discovery, and the human experience through richly symbolic and narrative-driven paintings. Drawing inspiration from personal experiences, relationships, spirituality, and everyday rituals, she creates visual worlds that invite viewers to reflect on their own stories and connections.

Born in Abu Dhabi and raised across the Gulf region, Sedky’s multicultural upbringing exposed her to diverse perspectives and traditions, shaping her enduring curiosity about identity, community, and human relationships. She holds a degree in Finance from the John Molson School of Business in Montréal and later pursued executive education alongside extensive fine arts training in Egypt, including studies under renowned Egyptian artist Mohamed Abla.

Before dedicating herself to a full-time art practice, Sedky co-founded NOLA, one of Egypt’s most recognized dessert brands. Her years spent building communities through food, hospitality, and shared experiences continue to influence her artistic exploration of connection, generosity, and belonging. The themes that once brought people together around a table now find expression through her paintings.

Working primarily in acrylic and mixed media, Sedky’s practice combines autobiographical storytelling with recurring symbols, vibrant color palettes, and layered visual narratives. Her work examines universal themes of love, growth, resilience, family, friendship, and transformation, encouraging viewers to discover their own meaning within each piece.

Sedky has exhibited internationally, including in Los Angeles and Miami, and has participated in artist residencies in Alaska, Finland, and North Macedonia. Her work is held in private collections in Egypt and internationally.

Her upcoming solo exhibition, Building a Love That Lasts, explores the foundations of enduring connection through themes of vulnerability, self-worth, trust, commitment, and growth. Through this body of work, Sedky invites viewers to consider love not as a destination, but as a practice that is cultivated over time.

Laila Sedky lives and works in Cairo, Egypt.
